PitchHighway vs Vocal Pitch Monitor (2026): a song plan or a pitch graph

Updated . Facts about Vocal Pitch Monitor are as of this date; the sources are at the end of the page.

Vocal Pitch Monitor shows the pitch of any sound as a live graph. PitchHighway builds a practice journey from a song that you upload and scores you against that song. That is the one-sentence difference. These are 2 different kinds of tool, so you can use both. Vocal Pitch Monitor is a utility from the developer Tadao Yamaoka. All facts about it are as of 2026-10-15, and the sources are at the end of this page.

The core difference

Vocal Pitch Monitor is a monitor, not a lesson app. It listens to the microphone and draws your pitch as a scrolling graph, with time on the horizontal axis and the musical scale on the vertical axis. The current note name shows at the top of the screen. You can record, play back and save takes, and it has a tuner. It works with a single voice or instrument. It gives no target melody and no score, so you judge the trace yourself.

PitchHighway is a song-learning app. You upload the song that you want to learn, as an MP3 file or a YouTube link of up to 10 minutes. PitchHighway separates the vocal from the song and builds a journey for it: warmups in the song's key, drills for the notes that you cannot reach yet, phrase-by-phrase practice, and a full-song run. During each singing exercise it detects your pitch in real time and scores every note against the song's melody.

Thus Vocal Pitch Monitor answers "what pitch am I singing now?" PitchHighway answers "how close am I to this song, and what do I practice next?"

Using both

The 2 tools do different jobs. A pitch graph shows what your voice does on one note or one slide. A song journey tells you which phrases of your song need work and gives you drills for them. You can use Vocal Pitch Monitor to look at a single note in detail, and PitchHighway to practice the song that the note belongs to.

Switching from Vocal Pitch Monitor

Expect these differences when you move from Vocal Pitch Monitor to PitchHighway:

  1. You start from a song, not from the microphone alone. Upload an MP3 file or a YouTube link, up to 10 minutes long.
  2. Processing takes a few minutes. PitchHighway separates the vocal, analyzes it and builds the journey. The app shows the status and tells you when the song is ready.
  3. You sing against target notes. Each singing exercise gives a score and up to 3 stars, and a star unlocks the next exercise.
  4. Make a free account at pitchhighway.com/register. You do not need a download. A free browser account currently includes 1 lifetime song upload.
  5. The free tools need no account. The note practice tool lets you pick a note, sing it and get a score. The vocal range test measures your range in about 60 seconds.
  6. Premium is a subscription, not a one-time purchase. It adds more uploads (up to 5 each day and 50 each month) and all journeys. On iOS, Apple bills it. On the web, Stripe bills it.
