## What it does

Sing one sustained note and this free, no-signup tool analyzes the **tone** of your voice — not the pitch, but the character: its brightness, clarity, resonance, and vibrato. It maps the result onto one of six timbre profiles.

Runs entirely in your browser. Your voice is analyzed **on-device** and never uploaded.

## Timbre vs. range vs. voice type

These three answer different questions, and people conflate them constantly:

- **Range** is which notes you can hit — https://pitchhighway.com/voice-range
- **Voice type** (soprano, tenor, …) is a classification built mostly on range — https://pitchhighway.com/voice-type
- **Timbre** is the *color* of the sound at any given note. It's why two tenors singing the same note sound nothing alike.

Timbre is the part people mean when they say a voice is "warm", "bright", "breathy", or "rich" — and it's the part that's least visible in a pitch-only test.
